Jennifer Siebel Newsom on her hit documentary, Miss Representation.

Jennifer Siebel Newsom is a filmmaker, actress, and advocate for women and girls. Newsom wrote, directed, and produced the 2011 Sundance documentary

Miss Representation, which recently debuted on Oprah Winfrey’s OWN network. Miss Representation explores how mainstream media undermines women in positions of power and influence. Newsom launched MissRepresentation.org, a call-to-action campaign that gives women the tools to realize their full potential. The main message is that the media leads women and girls to value their self-worth by judging their beauty and sexuality rather than their capacity as leaders.

Ms. Newsom will be speaking about her organization, showing a trailer of the film and asking what we can do, as both women and men, to help redefine the media’s image of who women are and what we can accomplish.
